  • Medicare is a federal health insurance program for individuals aged 65 and older, as well as certain younger individuals with disabilities or specific conditions. Eligibility typically begins when you turn 65 or after receiving disability benefits for 24 months.

  • Medicare consists of four parts: Part A (Hospital Insurance), Part B (Medical Insurance), Part C (Medicare Advantage), and Part D (Prescription Drug Coverage). Each part covers different healthcare services, and it's important to understand how they work together.

  • You can enroll in Medicare online at the Social Security website, by phone, or in person at your local Social Security office. 

  • Costs can vary depending on the specific plan you choose. Most people do not pay a premium for Part A, but Part B typically has a monthly premium. There may be ways the state can help pay for Part B also.  Additionally, there may be deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance for services. It’s important to review the details of each part to understand the overall costs.
